“ Objective: the pole of cold ”
|
|
A couple of weeks ago if we had to explain what we were doing, you wouldn’t believe us, so let’s try: let us remind you that we are in Siberia.
It started on July 1st with our departure from Adygalakh, where we met Piotr and Anatole, thw two only remaining survivors of a village of 1700. One of them invites us to go fishing, while the other one prepares us a banquet of fried fish and very very v ery sweet fresh garlic. After this we have a real bed instead of our foam mattresses and tents and all of this at 60km from the next house with running water and electricity. « The peak of the show », a banha, a Russian bath, like a sauna, where one is w hipped by pine branches by a tootless man.
The following day, we have successful departure. We walk and walk and walk…. So well that we even managed to break our own personal record – 42 km in one day. Sunset along a beautiful river with an endless sun at midnight where it still is 18 degrees. Th e most incredible thing is that once the sun completely disappears, the temperature falls to zero degrees in 10 minutes. Siberia!!
The third day goes without comment since we walk, get stuck in a couple of huge rainstorms, but especially by meeting to German motorbikes that do in 10 minutes what has taken us 2 hours to do. The landscapes we pass are valleys and rivers.
The fourth day leaves us in the darkness of the Siberia rain. We build a fire to dry up a little bit under a bridge and we keep walking to get everything wet again. Lunch is rice and Chinese noodles.
The fifth day is that one of the fatal error. It is on this day that we arrive at the Russian Telecommunication station which is deserted. It was a place that was worthy of James Bond. There is nothing around for another 75 km, but here there are hangars , electricity plants, machines of all types…These Russians are really mad.
It is here that we meet Vladik who does not want to leave us alone thinking that we will become prey to the bears that we think are small, but who in reality are giants. He invites us to his house, 75 Km from where we are!! We are really lucky as he know s a lot about Goulags and his mother is a great cook.
Finalement on passera les journées du 6eme et 7eme jour à se faire soigner, à interwiever, visiter un musée et rencontrer un fils de ZEK.
Finally we pass days 6 and 7 to relax, interview people, visit a museum and meet the son of a Zek. We end up in the north pole, the coldest place on earth (with -71 dgrees) and keep going to see another abandoned Goulag 60Km further south.
Why not?
Safe journey.
